Some remodelers think using Durock or mold resistant Sheetrock instead of regular drywall in the shower is waterproofing. Only installing wallboard in tile showers allows water to soak through the grout into the walls, which over time, never dries out. Let’s get this right!

I bring a building science background to your bathroom remodel project. Schluter KERDI is 8-mil thick and has a water vapor permeance of 0.90 perms, when tested according to ASTM E96, using Procedure E at 90% relative humidity. This membrane does not allow water or water vapor that soaks past the grouting into the walls, corners, floor or curbs.
